Accomplishments

The 2009 Outdoor soccer program has wrapped up with some great success for individual teams and our program in general. We had 3 teams win their respective playoff loops in The 2009 Cambrian City Championships held on Oct 3 and 4.

Our U15 Girls team coached by Martha Corbin: The Stonewall Strikerz 15 year old girls captured the 2009 Soccer B-side City Championships on Saturday, October 3rd -- beating Park City West 1- 0.  The win follows a solid Spring season and exceptional teamwork during play-offs.  In just 8 play-off games, the team racked up an impressive 45+ goals, with only 5 goals scored against them.

Our U14 Girls team coached by Randy Wawryk: This team captured the City A-side Championship on Saturday, October 3rd beating Oakbank 3-1. This win follows an exceptional season with 22 wins, 3 ties against 0 Loses. They also took the 2009 Childrens Hospital Tournament, going through undefeated. This just confirming them to be the best U14 Girls team in the province.

Our U11 Girls team coached by Ally Stewart & Rhonda Lukawy: "The Stonewall Flames 11 year old girls soccer team won the City B-side Championships on Oct 3rd beating Valley Gardens in an exciting 1-0 game.  The Flames had gone through the round robin portion of the playoffs with only 1 loss previously to Valley Gardens."

Our further congratulations goes out to the U11 Boys team coached by Bob Beck. The team successfully defended their title by winning the 2009 St Charles Cup.

  • Successful integration of a new playoff program for our 7&8 in-house program
  • Successful integration of the 1 with 1 program for our 5&6 in-house program. This is a WYSA initiative that is being implemented city wide that incorporates 1 parent with 1 player throughout the coaching program.
  • 10 players participated in the District wide Developmental Program with St Charles Soccer Association and Portage Trail Soccer Club – This is the pre-curser for Premier and Provincial Programs.
  • SYSA graduate Maeghan Lindsay selected in the 2009/2010 Provincial U13 Girls soccer program.

A twelve-year-old soccer player trained in the Stonewall Youth Soccer Association (SYSA) has made it to the final tryouts for the U13 Provincial girl’s soccer team. Maeghan Lindsay of Stonewall was chosen as one of 40 girls good enough to try out for the elite Manitoba team after being scouted at one of her games in Winnipeg this summer. Lindsay will try to become one of the final 18 players picked for the team. Lindsay has played in the SYSA since the age of five, before being invited to play with the St. Charles Developmental team this past summer. She says her interest in the beautiful game runs deeply in her family.
As long as she makes the cut this weekend Lindsay will start playing exhibition games with the provincial team early next year before the season starts in the spring. On top of playing with the provincial team, Lindsay says she’s also going to continue playing with St. Charles Developmental team next season as well.
“Ultimately Lindsay says she’d like to play for Team Canada when she’s older.

This success has come via the dedication of our coaching staff, the support of their families, and the commitment of our players. We also cannot underestimate the support of the Town of Stonewall in providing and maintaining a great soccer facility for our players to develop in.

See you all next year.
